A Legislative Call to Action

Bipartisan Support Needed for National Residential Energy Program

Downloadable Letters:

Your help is needed in support of H.R. 1778, the Residential Energy and Environmental Performance (REEP) legislation currently under consideration on Capitol Hill. Your Congressional representative could be influential in getting this important legislation approved by Congress and signed by the president. Currently the bill has 39 Democratic co-sponsors, but no Republican co-sponsors, and we need a minimum of five Republican co-sponsors to ensure bipartisan support for the legislation.

Please review this list of Republican members of the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus, including the name and e-mail address of each representative’s legislative assistant. If a representative from your state is on the list, we urge you to craft a letter encouraging them to co-sponsor the bill. (Here is a sample letter to get you started.) And if you know others in the industry who can influence any of the Republican caucus members, please ask them to write letters as well.

If you are able to help write a letter or make a phone call to your representative, please let us know so we can track results by sending an E-mail to info@efficiencyfirst.org

The REEP language is currently embedded in the Waxman-Markey Climate Bill, but this larger bill faces greater challenges on its way through Congress. Because the original H.R. 1778 REEP language is not controversial, we need to build bipartisan support so the leadership can insert it into another bill should Waxman-Markey fall through.

The REEP legislation has been endorsed by numerous nonpartisan trade groups, including the National Association of Home Builders, the National Association of Realtors, the Real Estate Roundtable and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.

Please take a moment to help us shore up support for this important legislation.
