After stating the basic premise that “Retrofitting existing buildings to make them more energy efficient is by far the most effective way to dramatically reduce the CO2 emissions associated with the built environment,” Westervelt explores various financing strategies and business models that have been floated as solutions to the problem of scaling the building industry, including Energy Services Companies (ESCOs), Clean Energy District Financing, and direct loans from utility companies to finance energy upgrades.
