Obama: ‘Make Clean Energy the Profitable Kind of Energy’

In his State of the Union Address on Wednesday, President Obama singled out clean energy as a crucial path to economic growth, and called on Congress and the American people to “make clean energy the profitable kind of energy in America.” In reference to job creation in particular, the President said:

Tomorrow, I’ll visit Tampa, Florida, where workers will soon break ground on a new high-speed railroad funded by the Recovery Act. There are projects like that all across this country that will create jobs and help move our nation’s goods, services, and information.

We should put more Americans to work building clean energy facilities, and give rebates to Americans who make their homes more energy-efficient, which supports clean energy jobs. And to encourage these and other businesses to stay within our borders, it is time to finally slash the tax breaks for companies that ship our jobs overseas, and give those tax breaks to companies that create jobs right here in the United States of America.

  1. Don Belmont says:

This is a “No Brainer”. Wherever you fall on the issues of climate change it is clear that the demand for clean energy in the world will bring profits to any country who is positioned to fulfill the demands of the world for clean and efficient energy. A relatively modest investment now will bring us a large payoff if we are smart enough to make it.

  2. The best energy is the energy not used or wasted. I think that energy efficiency’s probably is a marketing one. It’s simply not very sexy. Solar panels attract attention, get local press, and you can show it off to visitors. Have you ever show anyone the great caulking job you did on your windows?
